Kilmarnock Ice Rink is based at the Galleon Centre, a multi-purpose sports venue in the centre of Kilmarnock. The facilities are too numerous to mention but include a swimming pool, gym, sauna and two bars.
The Galleon Kilmarnock Ice Rink is home to a number of ice hockey teams, including the Kilmarnock Thunder of the Scottish National League. It is just one of 41 ice rinks in the UK that are home to competitive ice hockey teams.

The SNL is the second-highest league in Scotland behind the Elite Ice Hockey League. The league has eight competing teams (see below).
Scottish National League Teams
Aberdeen Lynx | Kilmarnock Thunder |
Dundee Comets | Kirkcaldy Kestrels |
Dundee Tigers | North Ayrshire Wild |
Edinburgh Capitals | Paisley Pirates |
The teams charge for entry to games, generally £5-£10 for a non-concessionary adult and reduced rates for children and OAPs.
SNL teams compete for the regular season title, the playoff title, and the Scottish Cup. The regular season runs from September to late March, and the season concludes in early April with a playoff weekend for the semi-final and final games.
How Cold Is Kilmarnock Ice Rink?
If you haven’t been to a hockey game before, you need to know that ice rinks are cold places (not a surprise!). And the closer you are to the ice, the colder you will be.
Also, hockey rinks in the UK aren’t heated, so temperatures in the arena drop in line with outside temperatures. We would rank the temperature of the Kilmarnock Ice Rink as colder than average for the UK.
Kilmarnock Ice Rink Seating
Kilmarnock Ice Rink seating runs two deep along the rinkside. This means you are close to the action and close to the ice (so wrap up warm)! The seats aren’t raised much, so your views of the rink corners can be restricted.
